UNOFFICIAL GUIDE TO LEGOLAND WINDSOR
Getting There
The satnav postcode for Legoland Windsor is SL4 4AY.
The address of Legoland Windsor is Winkfield Road, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 4AY, UK. It is around 20 miles West of London.
From M4 junction 6, M3 junction 3 and M25 junction 13, follow the Legoland brown tourist information signs. This covers approaches from London, the south coast, East Anglia etc.
For approaches from the West along the M4 or from the M40 (Oxford, Birmingham and the North) we recommend our "secret" route, below, which avoids Windsor town centre completely. This is often a good move because Windsor is a particularly busy place with business traffic and tourists accessing the town centre as well as much of the Legoland traffic itself.
The UGLW "secret" route to Legoland Windsor
- If on the M40, leave at junction 4 and take the A404(M) towards Maidenhead all the way to the M4 junction 8/9
- Leave the M4 at junction 8/9
- Take the A308(M) a short distance to the roundabout
- At the roundabout take the A330 towards Ascot for about 3 miles
- At the first roundabout you reach take the first exit on to Drift Road
- Continue on Drift Road (which is dead straight for most of its length) for about 3 miles
- At the end of Drift Road is a T-junction: turn left
- Almost immediately there is a roundabout: first exit
- Legoland Windsor is clearly signed on the left after about a mile
Using the above route means you avoid Windsor town centre completely and end up approaching Legoland from the opposite direction to most traffic which will be coming from Windsor. And it's pretty much the same distance.
Here are those instructions in reverse for the weary journey home!
The UGLW "secret" route from Legoland Windsor
- Keep in the right hand lane when leaving the park
- Turn right at the roundabout when you exit the park (Windsor is signposted left)
- At the next roundabout turn right
- Immediately turn right in to Drift Road
- Continue on Drift Road (which is dead straight for most of its length) for about 3 miles
- At the roundabout turn right on the A330 towards Maidenhead, continue for about 3 miles
- At the large roundabout take the A308(M) to access the M4
- To reach the M40 you'll need to take the A404(M) at junction 8/9
Legoland's "Alternative Route"
A quick word about Legoland's Alternative Route which you may see signposted. This is different to our route above and simply takes you from Windsor town centre (or back again) via a longer route which is probably quicker than the direct route during peak times. You'll still end up in Windsor though, so if your journey is from West of the theme park you'll be better off with our route above.
